Our secret new spot whenever we crave French cuisine
Next time you crave fresh and tasty French cuisine, this is a place you should visit with the whole family. La Pause Gourmande Café is a well-hidden café in the city that opened its doors earlier in 2017. It is seriously worth visiting for a quick bite at lunch time or then for that cozy gathering with your friends or with the whole family during the weekend. We promise once you know the spot you will find any excuse to go back there!
The name of the cafe means ‘The Gourmet Cafe for a pause’ and perfectly translates about what to expect when visiting : a relaxing spot in the city to pause for French savory and sweet delicacies.
La Pause Gourmande Café is located in the Embassies area district – check our map below – close to French Lycée Louis Massignon. It has a charming style with an art deco vibe, reminiscent of French cafes you would visit in Paris.
The menu is quite extensive and is filled with typical French recipes you could expect in French cafes, such as pistou soup (23AED), a large variety of healthy salads (ranging between 24 to 27 AED), typical Croque-Madame (toasted turkey ham and cheese sandwich topped with an egg) and different appetizing mains such as Beef and asparagus roll-ups served with mashed potatoes (39AED) or Florentine tagliata steak with baby spinach and parmesan cheese (37AED).
We have been there a couple of times now and are amazed by the quality of the food and the very fair pricing each time we visit. From the freshness of the products, to the sophistication of the recipes and the wholesome taste of the different dishes, we must say we are sold! Everything is made in house and you can taste the freshness in every bite.
Please don’t skip the dessert section and allow yourself a sweet treat.
The hardest part is to make your choice as they are all so tempting. So far, we have already indulged with their spicy chocolate mousse (20AED) and love the kick given by the Espelette Chili pepper, the Crème brûlée or the zucchini cake that was recently added to the menu. They are all gorgeous and worth those extra calories!
Kids will also love this spot that has a whole section dedicated to crepes and waffles (priced between 26 and 28AED).
Last thing, the tea lovers will be delighted to learn you can enjoy Mariage Frères tea there – our personal favorite high end tea brand from Paris – and the selection is varied and includes the famous Casablanca, Marco Polo Milky Blue or Esprit de Noël (Christmas spirit tea).
See you there!
