Always in for a tasty cut? Read on…
Has it been a long time since you last ate at The Foundry, an award-winning steakhouse located at Southern Sun Hotel, close to the Corniche area? It’s time to head back there and try some of their new dishes now available on their revamped menu – since February 2019.
The concept and focus behind this new menu
With a whole new team on board and Chef Damian Kasperczyk now operating The Foundry steakhouse, the team has come up with new creations for guests to experience, while keeping their focus on the quality of the ingredients, pricing and value for money.
Aware that steaks can be costly, the restaurant’s idea is to offer value for money to customers, which means they should not only experience a top quality steak but also elevate their overall dining experience.
That’s why all guests who dine a la carte at The Foundry will receive a complimentary liquid amuse bouche, one complimentary side and sauce with their steak and complimentary fingers desserts (petit fours).
These kind gestures are worth mentioning and usually make all the difference. The manager also emphasized on the fact that the overall pricing had been slightly lowered – dishes, beverage list – in order for guests to afford coming more often for their steak fix!
In the end, a pleasant experience that doesn’t break the bank is what we are all looking for.
Our experience tasting some highlights of this new menu
The restaurant had invited a mix of regular customers and media to enjoy the launch of this new menu. We got to taste plenty of different bite sized options during the aperitif and were impressed by the ballet of waiters that kept going back and forth between the kitchen and the restaurant to bring out the impressive spread.
Amongst the different cold and warmer starters, we especially enjoyed the comforting Lobster Bisque which was rich and reinvigorating – an option hardly available in Abu Dhabi. The Rockefeller – it’s an oyster served warm, baked golden brown, with spinach, turkey bacon and Sambuca bechamel – was interesting thanks to its light flavor brought by the spinach and softness brought by the creamy sauce. We were less convinced by the smoked burrata as the smokey taste overpowered the dish.
The seared Diver King Scallops offer an appealing design and are a light and refined option to pick amongst the starters. As fans of duck foie gras, the unique Bruschetta of pan-fried duck Foie Gras was a hit with us.
The guests were then invited to move to a table inside the restaurant to experience a main prepared by Chef Damian who opted for meats coming from South Africa and Argentina.
Bread lovers are usually in awe of The Foundry as guests get a full basket of different homemade breads to try along with flavored homemade butters. A treat we couldn’t resist before the mains came to our table.
We definitely loved both cuts, especially the Argentinian Ribeye that came with a Chimichurri sauce on the side, our personal favorite. Sauté mushrooms, creamed spinach, sweet potato chips, mash potato and onion rings are the different sides that can be paired with and our personal indulgence was the rich and creamy Gratin Potato.
The dinner ended with a mix of mini French patisseries for us to try, such as a lemon tart, meringue tart, chocolate layered cake and more.
