Dolmabahçe is the latest Turkish addition to the Abu Dhabi gourmet scene
You have probably noticed that Turkish restaurants are scarce in the Capital. So when we discovered that Dolmabahce had opened its doors in Al Zeina area, we were amongst the first to experience the spot.
Lavishly designed in 17th century Ottoman Empire style from floor to ceiling, the decor looks quite quirky and excessive at first glance but you quickly adjust. After a while, you start discovering some details such as the crystal chandeliers from the high ceiling, the golden rounded domes reminding of Sainte Sophie Basilique in Istanbul and the oversized painting on the wall at the back of the restaurant that all creates a Museum-like atmosphere.
The entrance seating has a more cozy and warm atmosphere, if you want a more relaxing vibe.
Welcomed with a freshly-baked warm bread served with butter and Turkish soft cheese-it was a great start to the meal. The menu is extensive and we ordered a mix of dishes.
We thoroughly enjoyed the traditional ‘Lahmacun’ – thin Turkish dough topped with mince meat – (40 AED). The must-try is the ‘Manti’ a soft Turkish beef pasta served in a garlic yogurt sauce with a sweet and spicy flavor (57 AED).
For our main course, we opted for meat and ordered the ‘Iskender Kebab’ (105 AED) and the ‘Dana Küllbasti’ (98AED) that is a marinated thinly sliced beef tenderloin.
Overall Dolmabache is a welcome addition that is ideal to visit with a large group of friends and family.
