W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island launched B.I.G brunch at Garage restaurant which offers many culinary options.
If you haven’t stepped into W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island since their opening last fall (around November 2019), you are missing out, especially if you are into interior design and decor.
Once at the Living room, there were waiters dressed in silver F1 attire that escorted us to check-in for the brunch. We were first invited to grab a drink inside or on the terrace at W Lounge, a large lounge located on the ground floor beside GARAGE.
At 1 pm, the doors at GARAGE open and guests are welcomed by the whole staff clapping enthusiastically.
Alex, who looked after our table all afternoon took us for a tour before we were seated and he gave us a brief about the concept. Our table for two was ideally located, inside an alcove with a gorgeous ceiling artwork (see below) and facing STEAM TABLE.
The Brunch concept
GARAGE is not your typical restaurant as it houses five different dining destinations called NIKKEI HOUSE, STEAM TABLE, MEZZA BAR, MEAT VAULT, TART VAN for sweet delicacies and TAP WALL for the beverages. You can actually not miss these sections as themed food is displayed in each, offering guests a large variety of delights that will satisfy any palate.
We were mesmerized by the restaurant decor and the way the creativity with which the dishes were displayed. On top of the five different sections to visit, guests also have a menu on their table with a choice of 4 different main courses you can decide anytime to order or skip (your choice), ranging from steamed stuffed prawns to crispy turkey burger or an Arabic spiced sweet potato for the vegetarians. Just place your order whenever ready and it will come to your table within 10 minutes.
This section is located at the very end of GARAGE and offers a lot of Peruvian and Japanese flavors to try, ranging from a selection of ceviche – salmon tiradito, chacalon ceviche, flor de pulpo tiradito – to panca prawn tempura roll, BBQ tuna sushi roll…
We liked the way the ceviche were arranged, in small individual golden cans, which ensures we don’t overfill our plates. The chacalon ceviche was very refreshing and a firm favorite along with the seafood jalea at this station.
Located in the middle of GARAGE, this section looked really gorgeous with a wall of colorful tagine pots displayed on the wall. They were interesting recipes, from beetroot and flavored hummus to kofta tacos (our favorite) or falafel burritos cut in individual slices to name a few.
At Meat Vault, guests were in for a treat with Oysters Rockefeller, slices of meat cuts or grilled tiger prawns to grab, along with mini gruyere rolls or mini Chicken Caesar – certainly the most original deconstructed version we have tried so far – or tuna tartare served in charming glass cups.
STEAM TABLE cannot be missed as it is a landmark at GARAGE with its oversized red wooden ceiling structure. This house, of course, serves a lot of Asian options ranging from Thai nems to steamed delicacies. While our partner enjoyed the Szechuan poached chicken thighs and Chinese cabbage and chicken roll, we visited the backside of the house filled with refreshing Thai salads.
From time to time, throughout the afternoon, you hear a bell ringing and you know there is something happening, such as Habibi Po’ Boy – a mega XL chicken shawarma coming that was at least 3 meters long- for guests to grab a slice or shots to try. Great ambiance and tunes with a saxophonist playing throughout the afternoon.
At 2.30 pm, the bells ring again with waiters bringing all the tarts -kind of a show- to fill inside TART VAN. Having a sweet tooth we must say visiting this section really made our day as there were many tantalizing tarts to try that we could top with ice cream- baklava, mandarin, lemon sorbet, bubble gum, dulce or vanilla flavors. The thin and crispy texture of the tarts crust was a winner and we loved all the ones we tried! There was this oversized colorful cookie that the staff would cut in small pieces that would bring a lot of attention among the little ones whose eyes were sparkling with envy!
If you just want to end your feast with something light, they have a light fruit tart made with a watermelon slice used as the crust and topped with fresh-cut fruits.
Beverages are on display at TAP WALL or you can also just place your order anytime throughout the afternoon and one of the waiters will bring it to your table.
Overall, we had a delightful afternoon, really enjoyed the fun and vibes at this newly launched brunch and will surely head back again later this season, whenever we have friends visiting.
And if you plan to celebrate something soon, with a BIG group, this new brunch has an impressive and gorgeous communal table centered in the middle of the restaurant, facing MEZZA BAR. Lastly, there also were a couple of outdoor tables at the terrace, if you want to take advantage of the cool temperatures.
