The best of Italy right here in the Capital
If you cannot resist comfy Italian antipasti, homemade pasta and ragù, then you should absolutely pay a visit to The Westin Abu Dhabi. Sacci restaurant has just unveiled their Friday Brunch called l’ABBUFFATA that is a culinary delight of Italian specialities from across the country.
The concept is all about experiencing a traditional Sunday lunch in Italy with the whole family gathering and enjoying more than 10 courses the grandma prepares after spending her morning in the kitchen-this is literally what happens here.
Everything about the decor is homely and inviting-from the tablecloths to the vintage tunes and hustle bustle of the people and of course the stream of dishes coming to the table-all made with love.
We began with an array of starters including baby octopus salad, a beef carpaccio served with rucola and pecorino and a mix of yellow and red peppers served with bread crust. Our favorite was the warm Parmigiana which is a typical starter cooked in the oven with layers of eggplant and mozzarella.
For the pasta course, we had three different varieties: the Crespella, a crepe served with porcini funghi and béchamel, the famous cannelloni filled with spinach and ricotta and the slightly spicy tagliatelle all’aglione.
The main dishes arrived soon after, leaving no empty space on the table. We got to taste a mix of Italian best classics such as a Mediterranean sea bass cooked in the oven on sliced onions, tomatoes and potatoes with herbs. We also enjoyed grilled veggies and king prawns, tenderloin or ribs served along with spinach gratin and mashed potatoes. To our surprise, our personal favorite was the creamy Ragù prepared with rabbit, green olives and tomatoes.
After a welcomed pause, we admired the cheese trolley that is brought at your table and we picked an assortment of Gorgonzola, parmigiano, pecorino and goat cheese, and the exotic Toma straight from the Piemont region that is matured in chamomile.
What was also unique were the different jams accompanying the cheeses, such as the green tomato, apple or berries jams, honey, and walnuts.
An Italian Sunday lunch wouldn’t end without an indulgent selection of Dolci and we had our eyes wide open when a long tray of 9 individual glass pots to share of Pannacotta cream, Tiramisu, Torta Sacci prepared with goat cheese snow and quince marmalade arrived with some other delights on our table.
This is definitely a brunch for foodies to visit with a big group of friends to catch up over wholesome and delicious food. This weekly new brunch raises the Italian flag high and will evolve over the weeks as the team is passionate and loves coming up with new and inventive specials to add to the menu.
