A live concert on a floating stage for the first time in Abu Dhabi
The 2014/2015 Volvo Ocean Race has just started on the 4th October in Alicante in Spain and includes a three-week stopover in the UAE capital in December 2014. The race fleet will be coming from Cape Town in South Africa and will head to Sanya in China after the Abu Dhabi stopover.
Hosted by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, a stopover festival will take place in the Destination Village on Corniche breakwater from December 12th until January 3rd 2015.
The festival will highlight Abu Dhabi’s maritime heritage and will showcase many performances such as dhow racing, traditional sea shanty or pearl diving. There will also be ocean conservation exhibitions, and many educational and entertainment activities for kids and families.
The worldwide acclaimed BBC Blue Planet in Concert will open the Abu Dhabi stopover on the 12th December and a second 90-minute evening performance will be shown on the 13th December.
Blue Planet in Concert combines spectacular, specially cut high definition footage from the award winning TV series –The Blue Planet – with the emotional and evocative musical score performed by a live orchestra.
Apart from this excellent news, what is even more appealing is that this concert will be shown on a 10-meter wide screen placed on a purpose-built, floating stage in the waters off Abu Dhabi ‘s Corniche.
The five times Oscar-nominated composer George Fenton will perform for the first time in Arabia with a 75-piece orchestra with the skyline of Abu Dhabi as a backdrop on this region’s first floating stage.
