Just back from the signature massage at Anahata Spa called The Seven Chakras massage
It has been a while since Anahata Spa at Khalifa City A has been around and built its reputation not as your usual neighborhood spa but really as a holistic spa center. As mentioned on their website, their philosophy “is deeply rooted in the Oriental way of living and wellbeing. They integrate the Oriental science and wisdom of ancient Ayurveda, Chakra balancing and traditional Thai medicine and herbal treatments with aromatherapy using essential oils from plants to revive the body to a state of balance leading to physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.”
They invited us to try out their signature seven Chakras massage, and we were eager to accept, especially after being introduced to color therapy that is highly linked to chakras as well (see our review here).
Wondering what chakras are all about?
First of all, chakras – also called energy zone – correspond to seven major organs and systems in the physical and subtle bodies. When the chakras are balanced, the whole body works in harmony and we feel elevated, energized and whole. Whenever the energy flow of a chakra becomes impaired in the corresponding organ, then the system function becomes impaired.
Ready to experience more than just a surface muscle massage, we were inclined to go deeper, let the therapist analyze our chakras and try to help us rebalance our body, especially the impaired chakras.
You’ll find at the bottom of this article a quick overview of the seven chakras.
This seven Chakra crystal massage
This signature massage is known to incorporate the chakras through a variety and combination of techniques that will help the guest feel more relaxed and focused afterward. The technique involves using crystals and matching them with the corresponding chakras to achieve total body balance.
GG, our Thai spa therapist for the day, took us on the first floor to a large and comfortable spa room. Dressed in our white gown, she asked us to just quietly lay back and applied seven different crystals (Amethyst, Sodalite, Rose Quartz, Jade, Calcite, Aventurine, Jasper, Clear Quartz) onto our body and left us for 10 minutes to rest.
After removing them, she was able to tell which two main priorities we should focus on today: our third eye chakra and root chakra (grounding and stability).
She told us she would focus on our back, especially our lower back, massaging it with hot crystal stones in order to activate blood circulation. She started with a deep-tissue massage from the back, using warm oil and hot stones, from shoulders to toes. The combination of the oil, the silent room, and the hot and soft stones really allow you to relax and let go. She then massaged the front, emphasizing on the tummy and shoulders.
To make the most of this experience, we highly encourage you to read about these notions of chakras, energy flows and you will quickly realize how connected and tied it can also be to the yoga philosophy and practice (kundalini, yoga flow, specific poses corresponding to chakras such as the tree pose/root chakra…).
Once this 90-minutes massage is over, take a moment to rest in the central room upstairs. This is your time to reflect on what the therapist tells you about your unbalanced energies and what to change in your daily routine in order to rebalance your body and mind while sipping ginger tea and recovering before heading back to your usual and busy life.
This massage is priced at 450AED for 90 minutes and Anahata Spa applies a 20% discount for this massage.
