Vitamin C is the superhero of skincare. It does everything, from boosting collagen production to reducing hyperpigmentation and even enhancing sun protection. If you’re not using it, you should be. However, pure vitamin C is one of the trickiest ingredients to formulate with which is why it’s often quite expensive.

The problem is vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) is highly unstable. It oxidizes, and loses a bit of its effectiveness, every time it is exposed to light, heat, and air. You’ll notice your vitamin C serum has gone bad when it turns a brownish or yellowish color.

To work properly, L-ascorbic acid needs to be stabilized. There are a couple of ways to do this. You can add antioxidants that have been shown to have a stabilizing effect, such as ferulic acid, to the formula. Or you can microencapsulate it (cover the vitamin in a protective coating). Of course, both of these solutions can’t easily be done at home which is why it’s best to leave it to the professionals.

Step 1: Activate by pressing hard on the white piston to release a dose of pure vitamin C power.

Step 2: Shake vigorously, and then pull the piston again.

Step 3: Screw in the dropper. Press the rubber bulb to fill the dropper, and then unscrew it.

Step 4: Apply the product evenly across the skin every morning before applying your usual day cream. During periods of strong sunlight, it’s recommended you apply this product in the evening before your night cream. The dose must be used within seven days after opening.
