Mark your diaries for the quintessential Emirati Nights in Abu Dhabi happening every Thursday at Emirates Palace

Nothing beats kicking off the weekend outdoors on a Thursday evening during the winter season. We have a great plan to share, especially if you will be hosting friends and family who are curious to discover and know more about the Arabian hospitality and Emirati cuisine.

MEZLAI restaurant located at the ground floor at Emirates Palace, next to Sayad seafood restaurant, just relaunched their Thursday Emirati nights for the winter season and we recently spent a relaxing and lovely evening there.

This season, Emirati Nights at MEZLAI expanded their venue and extended out to the garden close to the restaurant terrace-a brilliant idea!

The overall setting is quite magical with tables displayed in the lush garden of the palace. Guests are surrounded by a fantastic scenery, from large trees that bring a unique fresh feel in the garden, the illuminated facade of the palace highlighting architectural decor details. There is an oud player performing taking center stage in the garden surrounded by the calming water fountains all around.

With oversized Arabic lanterns, coffee pots displayed around the garden, you rediscover the Palace from another perspective and with a very special Arabian feel.

The two traditional Bedouin tents displayed in the corners also allow you to enjoy shisha after dining or visit the henna artist in between two rounds at the buffet.

Discovering Emirati cuisine in more depth

Taking advantage of the unique decor of the garden, there are starter and dessert station kiosks lit up with lanterns around the garden.

The starter corner includes a large variety of refreshing salads and assorted Emirati mezze such as tradtional hummus, baba ganoush, mutabel and more.

There are also plenty of live cooking stations to browse. Our top favorite was the seafood station where you just pick the fresh catch and get it fire-grilled- we went for a lobster that is cooked with or without spices-according to your preferences. The station was overflowing with seafood such as jumbo prawns, sea bream, hammour fillet and more.

If you are a shawarma fan, you can also get yours freshly prepared by a chef. You can also pick from grilled meat skewers (lamb kofta, lamb and chicken tikka, or lamb chops) prepared on demand. We adored the prawns cooked The Chef Ali style with garlic, onion, mint leaves, coriander, mixed capsicum in a pan.

These Emirati nights allow you to get more familiar with typical Emirati dishes such as the Arabic style feteer or sambusa, chicken thareed and more.

Save room for dessert as the Arabic sweets at this themed night are legendary. Beautifully arranged in a large kiosk, you will be tempted to try them all, from Shaybiyatt Kashta, cream cheese Mamoul, stuffed dates, crepe style pancakes filled with chocolate and more.

This is the kind of magical night that allows you to just disconnect, savour the atmosphere and relax after a hectic week. An indulgence with an Emirati taste worth experiencing in Abu Dhabi.
