Looking for a family outdoor plan for Saturday?
Well, if you are looking forward to spending time outdoors with kids and friends, we have just tested ‘Picnic at Westin’ a great option that usually has visitors book a second round.
The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort and Spa has just launched a cool concept that is not only a great deal for the family budget but also an excellent way to unwind before the warm days are back in the Capital.
The idea? You are invited to come and experience (between 10am until 4pm) the pool at the Westin and you also enjoy a picnic on the lawns beside the pools area with barbecue. The package costs only 355AED++ for a family with 2 adults and 2 kids which is really fair for such a relaxing treat.
Arriving at 11am, we first spend an hour or so by the pool. Apart from the shaded pool that is just perfect if you have infants and young kids, there is a family pool with a few sun beds. We also noticed a quieter area with a separate pool accessible only for adults and teens above 16.
The BBQ smell had us switch to the picnic area where you are comfortably invited to sit around a low table. Soon after, a waiter comes to our spot bringing a wooden basket fully filled with a variety of starters from maki, cheese, sandwiches… for the family to share. The package includes either soft drinks, or a bottle of house port or beers which was also unexpected for the price.
Kids also enjoy the finger food that includes green and black olive tapenade to taste with different breads, raw carrots and cucumbers with a dip sauce or houmous.
The basket was also filled with different colorful summer salads, such as tomato and mozzarella, fattoush and Greek salad.
After the cold starters, we headed to the BBQ area where you can order a wide range of raw cuts, from prawns, salmon, steaks, lamb chops, to kofta and chicken skewers.
A couple of tasty sides come along including jacked potatoes, creamy spinach, tasty orrechiette pasta with a creamy sauce or grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes. Simple and tasty the kids and adults went back to the BBQ stand for more.
Almost full and ready to go back by the pool, we were brought a couple of desserts to share and we recognized the Sacci flair with individual glass verrines filled with tiramisu, chocolate cream, panna cotta, and a paper box filled with excellent blueberry flavored marshmallows, cookies, rolled chocolate cake and a few more.
What we really liked is you get friendly service, a variety of simple and tasty starters, mains, sides and desserts that fits with the picnic and BBQ theme; so this is a winning formula that has something for everyone’s taste.
The little ones may also visit the Kids Factory booth where kids activities await them such as paper puppies decorated with stickers or coasters to decorate.
Be warned you shouldn’t wait too long before booking as March seems to be selling out fast and people have already started securing a spot for April!
