Covid-19’s 2020 takeover has been a tough time but world leaders have come together to create a preventive plan where self-isolation is the key to flatten the curve. #StayHome please!
This particular period can be difficult for those dealing with anxiety. Isolation may seem like a daunting command, especially when the digital world is filled with people singing on balconies and hosting social distancing tea parties in their driveways, but this is the time to revisit priorities and set in place a new routine.
Since we’re confined to the online world for entertainment, how about we use that screen time wisely?
The vagueness of it all seems overwhelming so keeping our mental health in check is absolutely crucial.
Apps like Calm and Headspace offer free subscriptions for guided meditations, reducing stress and anxiety and help promote a healthy daily schedule.
Alternatively, we’re now blessed with time to reconnect with our loved ones across the globe. With local telecommunication networks offering free video call services through various apps, we are, quite literally, a call away from everyone we know.
Fortunately, by reducing contact with the outside world, we now have the opportunity to genuinely slow down and reconnect with ourselves. This also means limiting media consumption to trustworthy, authentic feeds only a couple times a day. Regular monitoring of the news and Covid-19 updates may lead to additional anxiety and compulsive behavior as opposed to being informative and educational. This also helps you remain a positive influence for your loved ones. Follow blogs or media that focuses on the positives in life rather than the negatives such as Global Positive News Network.
Now, let’s talk about home activities to help cope with the anxiety. An effective hobby (we’ve seen it skyrocket this month) is arts and crafts. From the use of coloring books for adults and puzzles (available on Amazon and Noon), the focus and creativity required for these time-consuming tasks have proven to distract, relax and reenergize. But let’s be honest, the kitchen is a whole new laboratory to most of us now. The banana bread (check out the delicious recipe below from @doctorbowl ) and Dalgona coffee (recipe from @honeybii) trends have taken over our social media feeds along with the increasing number of home cooks!
These are trying times and those of us that remain zen and optimistic always may have succumbed to the uncertainty of it all. There’s a drastic change required in our lifestyles that has brought into question our daily fast-paced routine from a month ago. Mother Nature’s got a funny way of asking us to stop and reassess! So, let’s all come together to help manage our fears, clear our minds and utilize this time to reexamine our priorities.
