Why Sulfate Free Is The Way To Go

Sulfate has been gaining a bad reputation in the beauty industry recently, but what exactly is it? Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is a relatively inexpensive, yet powerful, grease cutting detergent that also aids in the foaming nature of soaps. It is used in all kinds of soap products from your shampoo and facial cleansers to heavy degreasing agents. So, in relatively simple terms, SLS is used to make soap “soapy”.

The problem is that even in diluted quantities, SLS is irritating to the skin and scalp. It also strips the essential oils from hair, which is what gives you that squeaky clean feeling but as a result causes the hair to dry out and can lead to breaking and damage. Have you ever had shampoo in your eyes? Well, SLS is the culprit behind that burning feeling.

KEVIN.MURPHY Sulfate Free Shampoo now available in Abu Dhabi

We are huge fans of the KEVIN.MURPHY shampoos as they are sulfate and paraben free, meaning that they are gentle on the hair and scalp. However, they are slightly expensive (110 AED) , so we are still looking for cheaper options available in the capital that we may also recommend in the future.

Kevin Murphy available at Anahata Spa in Khalifa City A (from 110 AED) and also at Marquee Eastern Mangroves Promenade.
