In the mood to sip a cup of karak tea?
We have just came across a tiny brand new karak tea shop in Al Muroor area that has us hooked. Shay Madhboot which means “Perfect tea” in Arabic opened its doors in January 2016 and is a very pleasant and cosy spot to head to anytime you want a warm cup of chai and Arabic delicacies.
This is the kind of gem we love to find, along a quiet street. The decor is very charming, with a wooden floor and very trendy lamps with chic light bulbs we just adore.
Three tables fitting three people each, an intimate sofa corner for two with an incredible dark brown cork table – the kind of furniture we had never seen before – that gives a unique atmosphere to the store with industrial lamps hanging above.
The menu is quite appealing with very affordable prices. Each drink -karak tea, caramelized karak, Turkish coffee etc is priced around 2-4 dirhams only and there are a couple of dishes to try, ranging between 4 AED for a stuffed paratha and 10 to 17 AED for a dish like foul, Lahm Naashef, shakshuka or omelette.
We opted for their breakfast priced at 25 AED that comes with unlimited bread and tea. We got to try the Shay Madhboot signature tea along with a Shakshuka and a set of freshly homemade plain parathas.
If you are not familiar with Shakshuka, this is a typical Arabic dish with eggs poached in a tomato sauce with chili peppers and onions. Our dish came nicely displayed in a rustic pan and the taste was just awesome. The onions were almost caramelized, the fresh tomatoes cut in pieces were flavorful, there was a hint of garlic and red bell pepper and it was topped with fresh parsley and soft feta chunks that added some color and a different texture. Amazing!
You can also choose between toasted bread or plain paratha and ours were just crispy and devored in no time.
The tea was served in a glass cup with a handle on a lovely wooden coaster. Two small individual cakes were on the side with the word glucose written. Just small details that make your experience different, worth it and make you want to come back asap.
Given the tea shop also prepares nutella parathas and other appetizing dishes, we will soon head back there for a second round with the little ones.
Lastly, if you are into design and home decor, this is a place you’ll want to visit.
The shop is open seven days a week and the daily timings are:
Saturday to Thursday – 6am to 1pm and 5pm to 10pm
Friday – 7.30am to 11am and 5pm to 10pm
