The Anantara Group has done it again… They’ve proved that their renowned luxury is ‘without end’ (Sanskrit meaning of their name) in their newest UAE resort, Qasr al Sarab.

Tucked away in the Liwa desert, approximately two and a half hours drive from Dubai, lies this exquisite Arabian palace (qasr). After checking in at the grand lobby, the first thing that we noticed was the towering sand dunes that painted the backdrop of the resort – this was the real desert and we were in the middle of nowhere…so girls, don’t worry if you’ve forgotten to pack those vital hair straighteners, as you’re probably safe from those unexpected encounters.

The rooms and villas are spacious and inviting, with earthly, Bedouin-style tones. The resort has four restaurants that serve delectable meals and an especially impressive buffet and service at the Al Waha restaurant. Suhail is promoted as a ‘fine dining’ restaurant. This is reflected in the prices, but unfortunately neither by the quality of the food nor the service.

One can spend all day lounging in the desert sun by the stunning swimming pools – but you’ll have to fight your way to a pool bed in the busy season as these are scarce.

Don’t forget to try one of the activities offered by the resort – our favourite was riding on Alice the Camel into the dusk, but sadly away from my ‘Palace of the Mirage’, Qasr al Sarab.
