WE EXPERIENCED THE ELEMIS BIOTEC FACIAL IN ABU DHABI

You won’t understand why Elemis Biotec claims itself as a new generation of facials until you try it.

We are just back from a facial treatment we were invited to experience at Heavenly Spa, located at The Westin Golf and Resort & Spa where they have the Elemis high-tech machine since September 2015.

Upon our arrival, we were first invited to indulge in a refreshing iced blackcurrant and hibiscus tea. Once in a cozy gown ready for the treatment, our therapist Tracy checked with us about our skin concerns and advised us to go for the Sonic Skin Resurfacing facial, a treatment targeting uneven skin tone, reducing blemish marks and smoothing fine lines.

To be honest, we were not familiar with this technology but left the spa feeling like we had brand new skin that was both smooth and replenished. Check our experience below.

Why is this facial about?

It uses three targeted enzymes to accelerate the skin’s biological exfoliation process and the treatment helps to effectively remove the thickening layer of the epiderm to leave it brighter and smoother after just one session. It’s also different as it combines hands-on techniques, technology with ultrasonic in our case and these tri-enzyme active products. But there are different facials to try depending on what your skin needs – anti-wrinkle, firming, radiance, blemish control, sensitive skin or a mens facial.

Our step by step facial

First our skin was cleansed with the tri-enzyme resurfacing facial wash followed by a soothing apricot toner.

We then experienced a double peel using a resurfacing activator containing Lactic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid and different essential oils such as thyme, sandalwood and lemon.

During the first peel, the skin was exfoliated with an ultrasonic peel – a first for us that was surprising as you gently feel the current and vibrations on your face. Rather than scrubbing, this peel -using a Piezoelectric current with 27,000 vibrations a second – draws out impurities and dead cells. The ultrasonic method also helps stimulate collagen production to minimise the appearance of fine lines. To finish this step, the therapist used steam to finish the extraction manually.

The second peel-off was more gentle as Tracy applied a peel off mask. While the serums and mask were working deeply, we enjoyed the massage on our neck and shoulders.

When they make was taken off we could feel the old epiderm layer had been peeled as the skin was much brighter and it was followed by the light therapy step. Tracy first applied a tri-enzyme gel mask that has a gentle tickle type sensation, she used both red and blue light*.

*While the red light stimulates collagen production, increasing cell renewal and boosting the micro-circulation to plump and smooths the appearance of fine lines leaving skin feeling firmer and tighter as the blue light delivers a powerful anti-bacterial effect to minimize skin-bacteria. It will soothe and calm, whilst reducing redness as it has anti-inflammatory properties.

To finish, the technician applied a contour eyes cream and the pro-collagen marine cream by Elemis on your face and neck.

The Verdict?

It’s the first time we could feel our skin and inner facial cells being activated and reacting during the facial treatment with the ultrasonic peel and the gel mask steps. Though we were afraid that our skin would over-react and would be slightly reddish, the good surprise was we were not reddish at all and our skin looked bright, with an even tone and felt much smoother than usual.

This treatment is priced at 595 AED and it is recommended to be renewed 6 times every three weeks.

Once the facial is over, book an extra half an hour in your busy schedule to enjoy the relaxation room, sipping a ginger and camomile tea with the homemade and healthy granola cookies on the comfy sofas and don’t forget to switch off your phone.
