Abu Dhabi’s obsession with independent burger joints lately certainly hasn’t escaped us.
Similarly, it’s pretty hard not to slow down when you come across the huge, dazzling neon signage that fronts Burgerchi. Large, colourful capital letters scream out its name and you can’t help but stop and salivate, even if there’s next to nowhere to park (it’s located in the same block as all the tailoring shops beyond the iconic Etisalat building).
On a lunchtime pit stop, we zoned in on their signature burger and fries. The first shocker is the fire engine red colour of the bun (courtesy beetroot flavouring), but what’s buried beneath has more to savour – truly juicy black angus beef layered in jalapeno poppers, onion rings and lashings of truffle parmesan.
We’ll be back for the camel burger next (which comes in an equally “instagrammable” black charcoal bun).
The Burgerchi Fries came as a mixture of salty as well as sweet potato fries – the two complimenting each other – and finished with Japanese flair crispy tempura crumbs and seaweed. All the garnishing really did give the fries oomph and weren’t just for show.
Try their Oreo milkshake for a sweet finish, but we simply washed everything down with an old school glass bottle of ice-cold coca cola and sat nodding in our car with immense satisfaction, completely oblivious to the Abu Dhabi heat.
We’d love to see Burgerchi as a sit-down venue in future, but will keep our cars gassed up for return drive by’s for sure!
