Yasa Caviar, the new local delicacy
Caviar, along with other luxury foodstuffs, is not difficult to come by in Abu Dhabi. Expensive seafood is par for the course on the UAE capital’s fine-dining menus, where dishes that cost in excess of 500 AED are not unusual. What diners do not expect to see however, is that the premium caviar they are enjoying is being produced right here under their noses. Well, almost.
The Emirates Aquatech farm is situated on a 56,000-square metre plot in the heart of Abu Dhabi’s desert and is the most technologically advanced facility of its kind in the world. Yasa Caviar, the premium product produced here, is a form of Siberian caviar that yields a salty, nutty flavour, which is already proving popular among the city’s culinary elite.
Those looking to get their hands on this local luxury, without paying the mark up in one of the city’s pricier dining establishments, can head down to the newly opened fish market in Mushrif Mall, Abu Dhabi where it is available for purchase. Be aware though, it may be less than you’d pay in a five-star restaurant but prices still start at 500 AED for a teeny tiny tub.
