Abu Dhabi’s new workouts you need to know about
Looking for some exciting new classes to try to get back into your fitness routine? We have rounded-up the various workout classes currently worth checking out in the Capital. Some are definitely fun, others very just plain tough. But this is the time to get back into your fitness routine.
KANGOO JUMPS
Give your fitness sessions a kick this year and get ready to wear the Kangoo jumps shoes for 30 minutes of sweating. We gave the Kangoo class at Tone Fitness in Bain Al Jesrain a try this summer. We were exhausted after our first class and proud to have managed to keep our balance. The regulars in the class seemed quite comfortable and were able to move according to the beats.
Don’t forget to bring along long socks (up to the knees), a large bottle of water and a towel. You can hire the kangoo shoes at the studio or even buy yours if you get addicted to this course. Expect to be exhausted and have some good laughs!

AQUABIKING
IN THE SEA OR AT THE POOL
Long awaited, aqua biking has finally hit the Capital with both sessions in pools or at the sea. We have become addicted in no time, enjoying this body toning and cardio workout. There are different class types and different locations throughout Abu Dhabi. Seatime – the company who launched this water activity in Abu Dhabi – has plans to expand. So stay in the loop and browse their website to get all details about their schedule and packages.

AERIAL YOGA, AERIAL FITNESS & BEGINNER’S REFORMER
We have discovered a fitness centre called THE STUDIO – dedicated to women only – and it keeps pulling us back for more. Located beside The Third Cafe at the Corniche, they propose different classes including group reformer pilates classes for beginners and aerial yoga. We tested the group reformer pilates classes for beginners several times this summer and appreciated that there were only a maximum of 4 students per session. The small class size allows the trainer to make sure students don’t injure themselves and do each movement correctly.
If you are already into yoga, then do try aerial yoga. Seated in a hammock made with fabric – it looks like a long scarf hanging from the ceiling – you will perform some of the traditional stretching poses and experience hanging upside down with the hammock. We have not tried it yet, so don’t hesitate to share your impressions with us.
SPINNING AND STRETCHING
CLASSES AT SWEAT
Another new studio just opened this summer located above Raw by Nolu’s at Al Seef Village (our review here). Open seven days a week, with classes stretching from 6am until 8.45pm, this cycling and wellness studio proposes a wide range of spinning classes – ride, mountain, hill lasting between 30 to 45 minutes – and also different stretch classes with intriguing names : decagon, bikini body, absolution, super sweat, abs and glutes, to name a few… The studio also includes TRX , meditation, Hatha yoga or relaxation.
