Art on display through unique sensory and design experiences

There is always a good excuse to go visit Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi, a place that immediately transports us into a holiday mode without leaving the Capital.

We are just back from their latest exhibition at The Residence inside Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi – from July 27 until August 10, from 1pm to 6pm daily – and it is definitely worth checking out. Be warned it lasts only two weeks, so better plan ahead before it is too late.

This temporary exhibition proposes visitors a whole journey exploring different senses and allows you to meet at week end time – on Friday and Saturday afternoon – the two artists featured at The Residence : Anthony Lambs, a Dubai based photographer and Michelle Evans who designs, creates and exhibits unique hand-knotted rugs.

The exhibition setting

The exhibition location is interesting as it takes place at The Residence, an area within Park Hyatt that is usually not open to the public except for private meetings and workshops. We really enjoyed the unique mise-en-scene as the artworks are displayed in different rooms at the Residence and it gives a very intimate feel.

The atrium also has a very unique and magical feel as there is a wonderful rug with blueish colors floating in the air over our heads that reflects on a mirror on the floor.

The artworks by Anthony Lambs and Michelle Evans

The photographs selected by by Anthony Lambs for this exhibition offer a mix between cityscapes in Dubai, New York, some few beautiful desert views and dhow sails. Some black and white images really question the visitors about their location – Dubai or New York – as it actually offers unexpected views from Dubai, such as a black and white image shot at Jumeirah Islands.

It is also very impressive to watch the fine art of rugs with some unique design rugs created by Michelle Evans. Displayed vertically as paintings or on the floor, each rug is an art piece and visitors are invited to touch and feel the different softness and materials used for each rug. This gives a different and warmer approach to visiting an art exhibition.

The rugs’ design are fantastic, either abstract or representing ladies faces, sea waves, light reflecting on rocks… The artist starts first with the rug design, picking the different colors the rugs will be made with and each artwork – 120 knots per square inch – is totally handmade in India or Nepal by artisans she works with. It takes actually 2 months for 2 people to create a unique rug that measure over 2 meters each.

The Drawing Room

Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi also proposes visitors to take part into the exhibition while visiting the Drawing Room. So, let the inner graffiti artist awaken with white walls awaiting you to get more colorful and arty. It is fun, different and looked very successful as you can see on the picture below.

An afternoon tea that awakes your tastebuds

The kitchen at The Residence welcomes visitors who wish to enjoy The Duchess afternoon tea designed especially for the exhibition.

We loved the long communal table that creates friendly vibes and invites visitors to stop by, mingle and share their impressions about this art exhibition. The Chefs have come with very tasty savory and sweet bites such as the Waffle Parmentier with a quail egg, leek and kale, the ratatouille bar or the salmon roll The scones are to die for and come along with clotted cream, lemon curd and different jams. Visitors can also try their hands at preparing their own macarons. They just have to pick the half-macaroons nicely displayed under glass domes and fill them with some cream before enjoying a bite.

Organized with different live stations, go check the tea and barrista stations as guests are welcome to learn more about the history of each tea or about the art of coffee. You can also opt for a refreshing drink as there is a large selection of refreshing mocktails to choose from – the berries mix and vanilla date smoothie were delicious -.

Last thing, don’t hesitate to visit during the weekend and enjoy a tête-à-tête with the artists over high-tea. Prior reservations are necessary. The special pre booked price of 245 ++ for two, is inclusive of refreshing brews and a selection of classic favorites à la mode, price per person is AED 145++.
