It may be hard to believe amongst this dry, desert landscape, but we’ve found hidden in the UAE the largest and only internationally-certified farm to pick locally grown food.
The great news is that the farm is open to the public to visit and buy your own fruit and vegatables. Once the picking is over, the food is weighed and you are charged accordingly. Better still, prices are far cheaper than any local markets or stores selling organic food.
Abu Dhabi Organic Farms has a large variety of fruits and vegetables currently available, including cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, peppers, fennel, beetroot, carrots, and aubergine, to name just a few. Fruits on offer include sweet watermelon, orange, passion fruit, strawberries, mangos (ripe at the end of February), and pomegranate.
With the exception for a few fruits and aromatic herbs, the majority of the picking is carried out indoors.
Organising a day with friends and family is the perfect way to connect with nature and experience the joy of eating freshly picked fruit and vegetables for a fraction of the usual price.
