We Kicked Off Thursday Night at the New Marriott Downtown
The best way to feast and fuel up before a night on the town in Abu Dhabi: the themed night dinner package. And the first one to be launched by Marriott Downtown is Kuzbara’s pocket-friendly BBQ and Hops evening.
The all-day dining venue – named after the Arabic word for coriander – typically cooks according to the coriander trail (Asia through to the Arabian Peninsula and the Mediterranean), but Thursday nights smell a bit like an upscale backyard affair.
Setting-wise, Kuzbara is super casual, too; a brightly-lit, market place-style restaurant complete with live cooking stations laden with sizzling, succulent meats and seafood.
While taking advantage of the grab-and-go international beer placed out in buckets – or alternatively, the homemade sangria, which is sugar-free and steeped in fresh fruit for hours – you can enjoy perfectly-cooked lobster, shrimp and other delicately-spiced fish varieties (from white fish to salmon tikka), as well as the usual faultless Arabic mixed grill.
You could easily go back and forth to the live grill all night, but don’t forget the carver just opposite slicing up lip-smackingly juicy short ribs. And we couldn’t resist a small steaming portion of incredibly hearty, buttery Irish lamb stew.
If you’re a vegetarian, you are still most welcome at BBQ night. They have a noteworthy number of raw and grilled vegetable dishes that can work as sides or make up a large healthy plate, as well as several soups (we spied tomato and Moroccan harissa), and a few hot Indian vegetarian favourites.
Not that you need them, but we also love that there is an entire station dedicated to condiments from all over the world. And around the corner is a heaping fresh bread and pastry station, a cheese table, and an array of desserts that, thankfully, were not the typical mass-produced afterthought.
Enjoy moreish and delicious bread and butter pudding or umm ali, every colour of the rainbow in delicate meringues, macaroons, mini churros, Indian sweets and ice creams, the best of which is the chunky, decadent baklava flavour.
Priced at 195 AED per person, this is a real bargain, not to mention conveniently close to Abu Dhabi central’s busy night spots where you can carry on your evening.
