Brunch is Back at Las Brisas
Held on the palm tree-dotted decking that surrounds one of the hotel’s many idyllic pools, Brunch at the Palace is one of those must-do ‘High Life’ experiences in Abu Dhabi. And one that’s kid-friendly, too. As the capital’s golden child of hospitality, no matter what you’re craving, you’ll probably be able to get it here.
If you want to toast off proceedings with a grapefruit mimosa instead of the standard orange, so be it; to stick to a clean, carb-less plate and still feel like you’ve feasted royally, easy.
Indeed, we were thrilled by the exhaustive array of fresh salad and cold plate ingredients and appetizers offered, and stocked up on Caprese cups and festive, leafy-green assortments topped off with more treats from the raw bar – fresh shellfish (chilled in literal ice-sculpted bowls), sashimi and a beautiful beef tartare.
Next, or alternatively, turn up the heat with some heartier, heavier mains from one of their live open grills and roasts, tandoori and pizza ovens or pasta stations. Our healthy intentions now out the window, we carried on with a perfectly tossed personalised penne dish, the fat, muscly lobster, glistening mixed grill and Arabic mezze.
As the tagline goes, one really should expect the unexpected at this one. For example, an avid brunch-goer shared with us the fond childhood memories that had come rushing back to him with every bite of a simple jelly donut (just one sugary find amongst the diverse dessert options). And speaking of childhood, there’s a popcorn and candy cart, too (mostly for kids, but…).
That right there emphasizes what we love about this surprisingly decently-priced brunch – you can have both your simple comforts and the luxe, lip-smacking stuff you’d expect of the Emirates Palace name.
It’s a shame there is no pool access package, but other entertainment comes courtesy a jazzy-cool, request-friendly band and plenty sport, crafts and games to keep kids at bay and play.
Las Brisas means ‘breezes’ so it’s fitting that the word that comes to mind when we try to describe this brunch is ‘breezy’; a swirl of the best of everything.
