Ramadan 2018 may be the opportunity to treat yourself and the family at Cafe Bateel for a reinvigorating and tasty Iftar dinner…the sharing style way.
Bateel is often our go-to spot for specialty dates as a sweet treat or gift. But for those who haven’t yet tried Cafe Bateel, you are missing out. Their Iftar offer shouldn’t be missed and will give you a great overview of the Bateel cuisine with the opportunity to taste different appetizers and salads, share three wholesome main courses and enjoy some of their signature desserts.
Invited in 2018 to experience their Iftar, we can only conclude this Iftar is a winner and a bargain for what you are served.
Upon arrival, the staff proposes you to choose between different fresh juice options (carrot, apple, orange) and welcomes guests with the now famous frozen Bateel dates – our personal favorites that are always served along with a cup of coffee when visiting Cafe Bateel.
Two options to choose from for the soup: quinoa and chickpea or black lentil. Our black lentil soup was wholesome and came with croutons and fresh lemon on the side.
The appetizers are served with homemade breads by Bateel and were devored in no time with beetroot hummus, labneh, and mixed raw vegetables.
These crudités were followed by three different salads to try that filled the table. We enjoyed nibbling and sharing the different salads: quinoa tabbouleh, halloumi and quinoa salad and the Jirjir salad.
This last salad is served with sauteed mushrooms, jirjir leaves, pine nuts, cherry tomatoes, parmesan and it is the date balsamico dressing that makes all the difference.
Moving to the mains, our personal favorite was the healthy grilled salmon served on a light quinoa risotto. We actually loved that the risotto was mixed with peas, asparagus, zucchini, fresh coriander and Iranian dry lemon and topped with a zaatar sauce that made it stand out.
Our partner in crime preferred the other two options: the mushroom risotto and the tender lamb confit and farro risotto were both filling and satisfying.
Leave room if you can for the desserts that come all together to the table: while some will stick to a light final note with fresh sliced fruits, others won’t be able to resist the signature Bateel dessert – the date pudding topped with frozen yogurt. We also enjoyed sharing mini portions of some of their best desserts, especially the pecan cake and chocolate fondant.
Guests can also enjoy a cup of qahwa with frozen dates to end up the Iftar dinner on a final sweet note.
