Iftar with friends and family overlooking the lush green gold course.

This year, for the first time we have experienced  an Iftar at The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf and Resort Spa. The hotel proposes a large Iftar buffet at Fairways, facing the lush golf course.

Tables are nicely arranged with warm colorful tablecloths, lanterns and trays filled with an assortment of dried fruits and nuts.

After starting with a warm traditional lentil soup, we moved on to the Arabic Mezzeh and especially enjoyed the carrot Moutabal, zaatar olive salad and couldn’t stop picking Lamb Saj Arayes that was slightly spicy.

Two highlights we also wanted to share at this Iftar. First, there is a camel shawarma station for those who wish to taste camel meat. Secondly, we were amazed to discover that the Chefs were cooking the lamb ouzi outdoors, underground the old-fashioned bedouin way. Curious about this old cooking method, we followed the Chef in the gardens of the Westin and felt privileged to discover this outdoor underground oven. After preparing the fire for an hour and a half with olive tree branches, the lamb ouzi actually cooks under the ground covered with sand for a minimum of eight hours.

The main course selection is worth checking out and our favorites were the Hammour with fresh harra sauce on top, along with The Moroccan Chicken Tajine and the Cardamon infused rice.

Leave room for desserts to enjoy some Arabic delicacies such as Um Ali or Mouhalabiya. There is an Oud player to accompany your Iftar dinner and the music creates a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. For dessert the family can enjoy freshly baked bread Arabic bread topped with sesame – slightly sweet, it is very hard to resist, the  traditional ‘Qatayef’ pancakes and the sweet and fried dumplings called ‘Luquaimat’ prepared in front of the guests.

Available daily from sunset to 8.30pm

AED 225 net per person – buffet incl. Arabic beverages
