A treasure-filled guide of Modern Architecture in Abu Dhabi (1968-1992)

For all those who have lived in Abu Dhabi for a couple of years or visit the Capital every now and then have noticed the city is changing at a great pace.  There are so many spots and landmarks to discover and that is why the book written by students in Modern Architecture at Abu Dhabi New York University in Pascal Menoret’s class is a must-read.

This book guides the readers through examples of Abu Dhabi’s modern architecture and is currently available for free at The Space in Abu Dhabi and at New York University Gallery.

In less than a year, these students researched and wrote a guide that describes 30 important buildings and landmarks in the Capital.

Amongst these 30 buildings and landmarks described in 30 chapters, there is Al Maqta’a Bridge, the Old Fish Market, The Cultural Foundation, Central Market, Volcano Fountain, Intercontinental Hotel, Adnoc residential buildings, Bus Terminal, Taxi Stand, Zayed Sports City Stadium, and many more…

To achieve this research, each of the guide’s authors had to conduct interviews with tenants, shopkeepers, landlords, building managers and sought out factual information from their personal stories.

Associated with different maps, one of the purpose of this book is to encourage readers to use the book to explore on foot Abu Dhabi from the Modern Architecture angle.

We are grateful for this initiative. If you couldn’t attend the previous lecture at NYU, don’t miss the upcoming lecture that Pascal Menoret will give on Tuesday 13th January 2015 at 7pm at The Space in Abu Dhabi.
