Abu Dhabi Hot Spots For The Lover Or Hater Of Football
Wherever you live in Abu Dhabi, Yas or Saadiyat Islands or on the main island, we have found the perfect places for you to head out for an evening in June during the FIFA World Cup.
To satisfy everyone’s tastes, we have split the city into 2 categories; the “Love Football” (LF) and the “Hate Football” (HF)– and recommended our favorite places to visit.
The Corniche
LF: Jumeirah at Etihad Towers
Nahaam restaurant proposes a tailored World Cup menu whilst watching all the games poolside – even the 2am matches.
HF: Avenue at Etihad Towers
Head to Fauchon to experience some French contemporary luxury cuisine – it is open daily until 1 am. We are big fans of their Mona Lisa éclairs.
Saadiyat Island
LF: Turquoiz Bar at St. Regis Saadiyat
Open daily from 7.30pm to 2.30am, Turquoiz Bar at St. Regis Saadyiat has a wonderful location by the sea. With its casual atmosphere, no entry fees, burgers, fish and chips and a large choice of beverages, what else do you need to watch your favorite team?
HF: Book a Thai dinner at Sontaya and forget everything World Cup in this incredible setting. Read our full article about this spot. For something more cultural, visit Salwa Zeiden Gallery, an art gallery located inside The Collection, close to the st. Regis complex.
Yas Island
LF: Visit Du Forum which welcomes guests every evening with free entry from 7pm during the World Cup. They have a massive 10x6m screen with commentaries both in English and Arabic. There will also be fully-themed fan zones, heritage zone and an indoor bazaar with separate areas for ladies, families and football mega fans, as well as Suhoor and Iftar offerings.
HF: Entertain yourself and dance at The O1ne, the newly opened night club with the world’s largest graffiti wall located opposite to Du Forum.
Between Two Bridges
LF: The Shangri La Hotel just built a World Cup Arabesque air- conditioned tent to welcome football lovers during the tournament. There is an entrance fee (around 70 AED) that includes two free beverages.
HF: Visit CHI inside The Shangri la Hotel, a renowned and luxurious spa in the capital. The Arabian Date Body wrap is one our favorites and nourishs your skin with a blend of dates, coconut milk, almonds and vanilla.
Abu Dhabi mainland
LF: Visit Al Forsan Resort and enjoy delicious food and beverages whilst watching the games. There is a 100 AED entry fee but you get this back in food and drink.
HF: Try something different and book a paintball session at Al Forsan Resort, it’s opened daily until 11pm.
