Ignore no More app prevents children from ignoring calls

Many mothers are familiar with the frustration of being ignored over the telephone by their teenagers. Whether it’s an urgent message to impart or simply an instruction to be home by a certain time, the unbroken drill of the ringing tone can be enough to turn any mother to more extreme measures.

That, at least, is what Sharon Standifird has done in response to her teens’ persistent refusal to answer her calls. The Texan mother of two has developed an app designed to lock her children’s smartphones if they ignore her calls. Once they answer, the parent can choose to unlock the phone if they wish to do so.

Standifird worked with designers and consultants for several months to develop the technology, which is proving popular with like-minded parents in the US. As the app allows parents to block their children’s phones remotely, some have also started using it to prevent them from using their mobiles at bedtime or during the school day.

Reports from children have been less enthusiastic.
