A new park with sports facilities and design installations themed around sustainability.
Living in the outskirts of Abu Dhabi and looking for an outdoor spot to take the kids? We are just back from the newly launched Masdar Park located in Masdar City.
Easily accessible from the road leading to the airport (location map below), this park has a lot of offer for the little and big ones and seems to already be attracting visitors both during the day and at nighttime.
What to expect there?
There are two parking lots surrounding this park, making parking hassle-free. Masdar Park is a colorful new park using recycled shipping containers at the entrance, washroom areas, and to also house the cafes and restaurants.
While kids will easily entertain themselves in the different playgrounds or play at the water feature playground, the adults coming along will be able to enjoy the various food and beverage outlets there : Cafe di Roma, Frost Bite ice cream, Burger Kitchen, Home Bakery, Saj 2 Go, Fusion café, Casa latina Food Truck, Rock and Rolls restaurant and many more….
What is convenient is that there are a lot of different areas to stop and enjoy a quick bite or drink.
We read that ‘In keeping with Masdar City’s role as a “greenprint” for low carbon urban development, a sustainability theme runs throughout Masdar Park.” We therefore noticed that every outlet is equipped with rooftop solar panels and visitors can recharge their smartphones and other devices at special solar-powered park benches. A great initiative!
If you wish to exercise outdoors, you can also enjoy the newly built 2.5km-long Al Mamsha trail starting at Masdar Park – perfect for running, walking, biking and even fitness sessions, with exercise equipment dotted along the trail’s route.
Just beside the playgrounds at the park and the trail’s start and finish, you can also rent bikes.
We read that the park also includes a football field and basketball court – available for bookings – but we haven’t found their exact location yet.
Don’t hesitate to come and visit the park at dawn as the lighting features are worth checking out. For example, one of the park’s signature design feature is the “Tree of Light”, a new attraction, which lights up and changes colour with human interaction.
Overall, Masdar Park is a welcome new addition to the city and we can’t wait to return with the family.
