Explore World Cinema and Restored Classics This Month
There really were some cracking, memorable films released in 2016. But there are countless more unsung heroes of the silver screen – both international, underground cult hits and riveting classics – left to explore in this world; most of which will never grace Abu Dhabi’s cineplexes.
For that reason, we feel really lucky to see The Space Abu Dhabi continue their love affair with film at a new home on Saadiyat Island. Here’s what’s up next for January:
*A Christmas Carol – Dir. by Brian Desmond Hurst Sat, Jan 7th, 4pm & 9pm
Not yet over that heady holiday feeling? Well, it’s probably time to move on, but you could give Christmas a proper send-off with this beloved version of Charles Dickens’ story.
*Girlhood – Dir. by Céline Sciamma Sat, Jan 7th, 7pm
A gutsy, “Girl Power”-heavy French film surrounding the tough neighbourhood upbringing of coming-of-age teen, Marieme
*How to Steal a Dog – Dir. by Kim Sung-Ho Mon, Jan 9th, 7:30pm
Ten-year-old Ji So steals wealthy people’s dogs to earn reward money when she returns them. A touching and funny Korean film.
*The Way He Looks – Dir. by Daniel Ribeiro Mon, Jan 16th , 7pm & 9pm
*The Gold Rush – Dir. by Charles Chaplin Sat, Jan 21st (4pm) & 28th (7pm)
