A relief to know that we can be beach ready with a quick, painless trip to the salon
For those who dread waxing because of the pain factor, we wanted to check if the rumor was true as Lycon waxing treat is reputed for offering waxing without the pain factor. It also promises to leave skin totally hair-free when you walk out the salon. Too good to be true? We wanted to put this brand to the test and searched for salons using this label in Abu Dhabi.
The Loft Fifth Avenue salon at Yas Mall offers Lycon waxing and we were quick to book in an appointment.
It is actually not a brand new label as the Australian brand started in 1978. A couple of decades after, it is still a reputed and high end label worldwide used in many salons.
What is appealing is the hot wax – used for sensitive areas such as under arms and bikini – has a special formula that includes fine resins, bees wax and aromatherapy oils. Among these oils are azulene, aloe vera, chamomile, rose and lavender. Ours had a very pinkish color, a nice strawberry scent and was called SoBerry.
Before waxing our sensitive areas of skin, the beauty therapist Tina used a cleansing lotion and then applied the hot wax with a spatula (no double dipping of course!). An enjoyable step as the wax has an unexpected super creamy and flexible texture that glides on the skin during the application. Gloves on, the therapist waits a few seconds for the wax to get a harder texture and pulls it off. No pain observed as she immediately applies her hand on the waxing area to eliminate any discomfort. She even made a second round here and there to get rid of any little hair left without us having any discomfort. Once our skin was hair free, she proceeded to a second cleanse as our pores were wide open and then applied a tea tree lotion to soothe the skin.
For our legs, the salon used a different Lycon waxing method that works with strip wax. This wax – also packed with aromatherapy oils – has a different texture and is applied much more thinly.
Our conclusion?
Why pay the same price if you can get a pain free service ! Definitely a spot we will go back to and advise especially for teenage girls who feel traumatized about waxing.
While the full body waxing is priced at 325 AED, the half legs cost 70AED, under arm 40AED and bikini lines 45AED, which is fairly priced.
