Great vibes and decor at this new bakery and specialty café
Next time you happen to visit Bawabat Al Sharq Mall, make sure to stop at TAKUMI Café which just opened its doors in Spring 2019. Located on the first floor (corner of the central alley leading to the food court – you cannot miss this café that has such a lovely decor.
Like most other Japanese cafés in the city, the style is minimalist but you’ll immediately feel at ease and get comfy on their sofas. The open space has no doors leading into the café and it is brightly lit with neutral tones (light natural wood, light grey sofas… ). The booth seating allows customers to enjoy some privacy, if that is what they are looking for.
We made ourselves at home on a booth by a bookshelf filled with plenty of books about Japan, including the famous Spark Joy book by Marie Kondo (review here), Ikigai or Tarts.
The menu offers a selection of specialty cafés, sweet drinks and also different flavored tea by Avantcha.
Of course, visiting a Japanese bakery & café also means we can’t help but order an egg tart-this one hit the right spot! We also ordered a Japanese cheesecake for takeaway, that had the TAKUMI logo stamped on it (lovely detail) and comes in a beautiful gift-style box, in pretty pastel pink tones.
Our flat white was served with a complimentary ‘choux à la crème’ filled with a custard cream. Lovely gesture!
A welcome new addition on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi, it has already found its crowd as the café kept welcoming customers during our weekday morning visit.
“Takumi” originates from Japan and means Artisan or Master Crafstman.
