Catch, the seafood restaurant that hooks its gourmet visitors
Intrigued by this seafood restaurant situated next to Asia de Cuba on the Corniche, we were eager to experience this venue after glancing at their swanky decor.
Catch’s decor transports you to an upscale holiday villa by the sea.
We are still in awe with the restaurant interior design built around a coastal and maritime style that you usually see in decor magazines but never visit.
With its open floor plan, windows all around, we loved the welcoming light and cozy theme and of course especially with the view of the sea. In the evening, the rooftop (with sea views) is also open to enjoy a drink with some music.
For dining we liked the long communal wooden tables that directly overlook the kitchen and chefs preparing sushi.
An inventive seafood cuisine with ‘world’ influences
Our first dish was a mix of fresh sashimi displayed on a platter with an ice sculpture. Their Blow-torch Dynamite roll is one of the signature dishes. Prepared with salmon, yellow tail and tuna, the roll is deep-fried for a few seconds like tempura and served warm topped with a delicate crab mousseline and pistachio splinters. Beautiful and so tasty, this was one of our favourite!
The selection of dumplings – with prawns, scallops or Chinese white and wild mushrooms – were very delicate and the unusual pairing with chili oil and sweet chili sauce matched very well.
The white meagre ceviche is an inventive dish with grapefruit dressing, ginger and radish condiment, that all add an unusual and fresh taste to the refined raw fish. Their octopus and passion fruit salad was exploding with colours and is served warm with a capsicum sauce and crunchy salicornia on the top.
For the main course, our tastebuds will remember their black cod. Perfectly caramelized with a miso sauce, the cod had a soft texture and the main highlight was the side of crunchy and refreshing green papaya salad and Japanese seaweed that both added a Thai influence, with color and crunch. It was finished with Hollandaise sauce sprinkled with chili flakes.
The meat lovers must-try their tender Black Angus striploin served with a soya sesame beef jus, topped with sesame seeds and served with hash browns.
For the dessert, the chocolate sphere is a good choice (and ideal if you want the perfect Instagram video) as the chocolate melts away when the waiter pours sauce over it to reveal marshmallows, puffed rice flakes and chocolate mousse. It is the perfect dessert to share with your dinner partner.
Definitely a great spot to try that will have gourmet lovers from Abu Dhabi and beyond coming back for more.
