Tamba in Abu Dhabi proposes a set menu with Indian influences with a contemporary flair
Open since Spring 2016 only, the new restaurant Tamba in Abu Dhabi has crafted a special set menu for Ramadan that is available to order daily during the Holy Month for a minimum of 2 people.
Already fans of their contemporary cuisine with Indian influences, we were eager to taste this Ramadan menu and once again we had a top notch experience.
If you haven’t visited Tamba yet, this set menu is an absolute must-try as it will also give you an opportunity to experience their balanced and inventive cuisine.
This bespoke menu has a total of 13 different dishes to discover highlighting the diversity of Indian cuisine infused with a modern twist.
Once the call to prayer is heard, we first get to taste a slightly salted refreshing Laban along with an apricot juice while there are dates and dried apricots to share on your table. Just a detail but we also loved that the waiters bring a large lovely water carafe to your table infused with sliced cucumber and fresh mint.
Next an uninterrupted flow of dishes comes to your table as soon as they are ready in the kitchen and you are free to ask them to slow down anytime if you feel like you need a rest during this culinary journey.
We started with two refreshing salads and robust flavored lentil soup, all ideal to break the fast. We adored the watermelon salad that was flavored with a hint of salt, cumin and light chili and topped with goat cheese snow while the baby spinach salad was topped with garlic chips and served with tomato chutney.
Next came potato and pea samosa topped with tamarind chutney and curd, spicy chicken lollipops that looked like toffee apple and salmon tikki with date jam and mango puree to match.
For our mains, the traditional and flavorful dal makhani was great, and came along with smoked chicken and a 48 hours slow cooked lamb served with a rogan sauce. These three dishes are best enjoyed with naan breads freshly baked in the tandoor oven. A pleasure to watch breads being baked last minute in front of you in the open kitchen the traditional way!
Before desserts come, make small room for the biryani as you can choose between chicken, lamb and quinoa biryani. Opting for the vegetarian version, it is nicely displayed in a cooking pot and the waiters cut the crust at your table. Topped with turmeric, white, red and black quinoa are cooked in layers and you are encouraged to mix them all together. The yogurt sauce on the side is flavored with garlic and raisins and pairs perfectly with quinoa. Seems simple but it definitely works!
Lastly, you get to try and share two of their signature desserts called The Bride and The Sticky Situation. Served with coconut and cardamon ice cream, this offers a welcome refreshing touch to this gigantic Iftar set menu.
Overall, our experience was great in every way and a superb opportunity to discover Tamba’s balanced and inventive cuisine as 11 of their dishes out of the 13 are listed in Tamba’s menu.
The set menu is priced at 180 AED per person (subject to 10% service charge) which is also a very fair price given the scrumptious dishes to experience.
