Our Review of Abu Dhabi’s Latest Irish Import

First off, it’s pronounced ‘f’doe’ – Irish storytelling talk for ‘long ago’. And what the international franchise is trying to do is tell a story of old-meets-new Dublin and its rich and evolving pub culture.

Compared to the capital’s other Irish bars, we like that this one is small, cosy but roomy, with pockets of smoking and non-smoking seating available.  Catch your live sport, or beef up those brain cells during the Sunday pub quiz, right here with a bargain daily happy hour and a cracking meal.

We started our meal off with juicy BBQ Wings that were drenched in that favourite dark Irish pour and garnished in chives, and the lightly-fried boxty quesadilla, the perfect snack. Yes, international comforts share the menu with heart-warming country classics.

More worth the sticky fingers were the honey chipotle shrimp tacos – messy, but full of texture with crunchy cabbage and fantastically fat, juicy shrimp.

Of our mains, the moreish Shepherd’s pie could easily encourage homesickness – pair bites with the everything-in-it side farm salad and “Irish-style” cheddar bread. Meanwhile, the Chimichurri lamb chops were exceptionally cooked and flavoured. The desserts are okay, but honestly the drinks menu is a far more exciting browse.

 

We initially saw ourselves here once a fortnight for a post-work pour, but Fadó is just so charming we think we found ourselves a new local.
