A hidden healthy & friendly café you should pop into!
Abu Dhabi has recently had a number of homegrown cafe options spread around the city and we love nothing more than scouring the Capital to discover and share these precious hidden gems.
Steroid Cafe is a perfect example illustrating this trend : a homegrown project located far from the malls and main arteries, with great decor and vibes. To be honest, this cafe had been on our radar for a while and the name “Steroid” was maybe too intimidating to us.
Adjacent to a fitness center called MPROVE, the cafe is finally not as masculine as we feared and most importantly the food is as tasty and the menu is appealing.
The coffee connoisseurs will appreciate the place for its different manual brewing specialty coffees including V60, Aeropress or Chemex priced between 35 to 40AED.
Visiting early morning, we were both tempted to try either their large smoothie selections or their cakes and muffins selection- all homemade and nicely displayed under glass bells – fulled with protein (banana peanut butter and nutella protein muffin, oatmeal high protein cookie…). By the way, the menu describes the total protein, carbs, fiber, fat and Kcal per portion for each item.
We finally couldn’t resist ordering a slice of chesnut cake (something quite unusual in the city) with a flat white. The chesnut cake was super soft and we felt as though we were eating our grandma’s cake recipe while the flat white came on an oak tray with coffee beans all around.
While enjoying the break, we paid attention to the decor details and enjoyed the industrial vibes (mix of wood and dark grey steel, colorful graffitis on the walls… ).
If you decide to visit at lunchtime, the menu is wide with many healthy salads around 30 AED, Inject wraps between 30 and 50 AED. Their main course selection – ranging from less than 30 to 88 AED max – accompanied with greens or wild rice look tantalizing and will have us back very soon for another tasting.
