Jazz up your Friday afternoon at The Foundry

Some say, Fridays are made for brunch. So to start off the season, we were invited to attend the brunch at the Foundry in Southern Sun Hotel – near Al Mina Street. Well, let’s make our statement straight: this brunch is a must-try. Here is what to expect and what we really fancied.

The contemporary signature decor

The Foundry restaurant which is a upscale dinner steakhouse with a sophisticated yet unique decor. Check their over-sized pending lights, metallic sofas at the entrance or high metallic alcoves and fences that add privacy and make a statement. Decor tones a mix of copper, brown and grey giving it an intimate atmosphere. We also liked that the restaurant is not oversized.

A bountiful buffet selection

With plenty of different stations to visit such as the oyster bar, foie gras or carpaccio stations, the Foundry Brunch succeeds in offering a wide array of individual dishes without compromising on the quality. Presentation is exquisite and the attentive staff keeps on refilling the buffet.

Most of the main courses are prepared with a ‘service on a plate’ and displayed in individual ‘casseroles’. We especially enjoyed the ‘cassolette’ prepared with shrimps, béchamel sauce and mushrooms and the slow-cooked lamb that came with polenta.

Our top picks amongst this solid brunch

Amongst our top picks, we loved their Foie Gras station featuring ice cream, crème brûlée or lollipop but the traditional seared way still got our vote. We also had enjoyed their fresh seafood selection filled with crab, lobster, shrimps, mussels and sophisticated seafood starters served in small glasses.

This brunch is well known for its fantastic meat cuts and we can confirm their reputation is well-deserved. Don’t miss their 21 day-aged and grass fed Rib Eye from Ireland or grain fed Flank Steak Wagyu from Australia. Their South African sausages station was a great treat especially with the garlic mash potatoes.

There is a special dedicated cheese room in the middle of the restaurant. To best enjoy the cheeses, ask for a basket of bread that comes with homemade flavored butters that vary from a week to another such as mushroom, apricot, brown onion, grain mustard, sun dried tomatoes, truffle or olives butter.

All the desserts are actually prepared in front of the guests. The hot churros and decadent mud cake were an absolute delight. Lastly their refreshing coconut mousse was the perfect end to a delicious meal.

The jazzy atmosphere

Their live band adds a relaxing vibe. As the brunch is indoors, we feel it is a spot you best enjoy with a couple of friends rather than with kids though there were some playing around who seemed to be having fun.

Oh and don’t even think of showing up last minute as we feel like advanced booking is compulsory if you want to try this Steak and Jazz Brunch.

The Friday Steak & Jazz brunch is priced at AED 199++ with soft beverages, AED 249++ with house beverages and sparkling grape, AED 349++ with house beverages and bubbly.
