We just tried the ingredient that is currently the most-talked about superfood
Açai pronounced “Aah- Sai-EEE” has been all over our Instagram feed these past months so we were obviously very eager to taste it.
What is Açai ? This berry traces its origins in the Amazon and comes from an Açai palm tree. Known as “The Tree of Life” in Brazil, it is often referred to as a superfood packed with vitamins and antioxidants.
Where to taste acai in Abu Dhabi? We tried the sorbet at a newly opened kiosk in Abu Dhabi and for 25 AED, you get the small size and are allowed to mix the puree with different ingredients: a fresh fruit (pineapple, kiwi, mango, banana, pomegrenate cut in pieces at their fresh counter), a dry topping (granola, peanuts, cashews, cornflaxes, mix nuts…) and coulis on top (honey, date syrup, strawberry coulis, or even nutella… ).
The dry topping comes at the bottom and the cup is filled with layers of fruits and puree topped with a coulis.
We were surprised that the açai puree was not too sweet; it indeed had a taste similar to blackberries or blackcurrants with a hint of cacao. Willing to experience this as a lunch replacement, we added 2 shot boosters: bee pollen and chia seeds that added a welcome bit of crunch for the palate.
There are many more boosters to choose from such as goji berries, guarana, catuaba, quinoa and maca and each shot costs an 5 extra AED.
The açai scoop was quite filling and makes it perfect healthy snack for when you are at the mall or post-workout.
We also noticed they now propose deliveries across Abu Dhabi. To get more information, visit their website www.acaixpress.com
