Hearty and classic French food
To all the Abu Dhabi foodies who enjoy traditional French cuisine there is a brasserie at the Venitian Village, we recently checked out. Sitting beside Inakaya, Brasserie Flo has a lovely terrace facing the sea and overlooking Sheikh Zayed Bridge.
We were invited for dinner on a Wednesday night and as the weather is cooling down, by 8pm, almost all the tables were full.
This typical brasserie proposes a menu that first looks short but features all the “hit” French traditional dishes such as the french Onion soup, Foie Gras Terrine, Lobster ravioli, Soulard duck confit or half honey glazed free range chicken with Truffle Mashed potatoes.
For our starters, we couldn’t resist tasting the snails served the Provençal way. Cooked with shallots, confit garlic and beef chorizo on top of croutons it was a good pick. We also tasted their crispy goat cheese pastilla with honey and walnuts that was the perfect balance of flavours.
For the main, it was a tough choice as all dishes looked appetising and we finally opted for the duck breast flambeed at our table. Perfectly cooked and tender, the whole breast is cut in front of us and served with a black peppercorn sauce that matched well. It was also a delight to eat the classic gratin d’Auphinois that came as a side dish.
If you are in mood for a filling yet sophisticated dish, the 700g Armoricaine style lobster is a good choice as it is flambeed in whisky, served with lobster bisque and homemade gnocchi.
Save space for dessert as there are so many tantalising classic French desserts such as profiteroles, crème brûlée, pear and salted caramel millefeuille. We went for the St Honoré that didn’t disappoint with a firm yet not too sweet chantilly, caramelized chou pastry filled with vanilla cream.
Bridging Paris and Abu Dhabi, the team has also created their own version of Paris-Brest with a light date cream – that is perfect to share for two.
Familiar or not with the bistro concept, Brasserie Flo has been an icon in France for decades and and now in Abu Dhabi it mixes all the typical ingredients for diners to enjoy a French culinary journey at your doorstep: signature French dishes, a casual atmosphere, attentive and friendly waiters.
