With Celebrity Chef Joe Barza’s live station at Sofra Bld during The Holy Month

During this Ramadan, Shangri La Abu Dhabi is serving some very unique Lebanese dishes with a twist. Prepared by Celebrity Chef Joe Barza, they will be displayed at the Iftar buffet served daily at Sofra Bld during Ramadan 2019.

His name probably rings a bell as this Celebrity Chef has more than 30 years of professional cooking and kitchen management experience. Easily recognizable with his signature black felt hat, he positions himself as the Lebanese Terroir Culinary Artist. He is also well known for co-hosting the Middle Eastern version of the TV program Top Chef.

He is currently at Sofra BLD every night between the 3rd and the 8th of May at Iftar creating dishes that will be served at the buffet throughout the whole month of Ramadan.

He has a special station where guests can taste some of his savory creations that include Chicken Moghrabieh, Quinoa Tabbouleh, Fattet Lsenet with Warak Enab, Berghol Bedfine with vegetables, Daoud Bacha to name a few.

There also are a couple of other dishes he came up with that will be served daily such as the tuna marinated with shawarma spices and artichoke salad, which was one of our personal favorites. You cannot miss his special creations as each of them is surrounded by a framed portrait of the Chef with the dish label! We were also fans of the Red Lentil Tabbouleh.

In the dessert section, Chef Joe Barza revisits a traditional Lebanese dessert called Layali Lebnen with Halaweh.

Staying with the Chefs and kitchen team at Shangri-La Qaryat-Al-Beri Abu Dhabi, he will make sure the whole team gets all the insight and secrets about each of his recipes so that they can be served daily to visitors throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan.

We were lucky enough to see the behind the scenes at Shangri-La’s kitchen watching Chef Joe Barza preparing some of his recipes and attending a one-hour cooking class, helping him prepare the quinoa tabbouleh topped with salmon. A pure delight!

The fans of Sofra BLD Buffet can rejoice as the buffet also includes our usual favorites such as the sushi and maki corner, the salad corner, bakery and cheese stations, grilled meat and seafood station and of course, the central dessert station including the chocolate fountain kids are fans of. We couldn’t help but indulge in their chocolate and banana crepe served warm with a side of passion fruit ice cream.

This Iftar is priced at 250 AED per person and is inclusive of all applicable service charge, local fees and tax.
