Looking to have a drink with friends while sharing some delicious food, want to enjoy a romantic dinner for two or book a private space to celebrate a birthday?
Well, there’s a great new spot in Abu Dhabi where you can do all that. Located at The Collection on Saadiyat Island, Caramel restaurant opened its doors a few months ago and it’s definitely worth a visit. Hailing from the US, Caramel is already well known in Dubai (based in DFIC) – which is why its arrival was so highly anticipated.
As its name suggests, the restaurant is decorated in brown and caramel hues, and features carved wooden walls and floors which gives it an intimate and warm atmosphere.
The menu promises huge sensations and aims to give diners an original culinary experience themed around fire and ice. However, we best warn you that the menu is so good you may have hard time trying to decide what to order. We wisely followed our waiter’s suggestions and tried a selection of Caramel signature dishes – and we were not disappointed!
One ‘must have’ is their TNT shrimp – shrimp which are lightly battered and served with a spicy Japanese mayo. Diners can also have fun cooking their own thin sirloin slices at their table over a 480˚C heat.
With their recipes mastered, Caramel focuses on surprising their guests and their Crab Louis “ice” dish does just that as it comes served inside a large ice cube!
While the Kobe beef sliders served with aged cheddar, balsamic onions on a soft brioche are to die for and as an added surprise they come with a side of their unique French fries which are topped with garlic and parmesan – just gorgeous!
For dessert you can’t go past the Baked Alaska – a sponge cake with fresh strawberries and ice cream, topped with a warm caramelized meringue and a strawberry coulis was a perfect combination.
To avoid any disappointment, we highly recommend you to book your table in advance. The restaurant is open daily for dinner and now serves lunch on Friday, Saturday and Sundays only.
