Chinese New Year is being celebrated on the 5th of February this year. Wondering where to go? Here is our suggestion!

As fans of refined Chinese delicacies, we always use the annual Chinese New Year celebrations as a good excuse to visit our favorite Chinese restaurant in the city: Hakkasan Abu Dhabi.

Hakkasan Abu Dhabi is commemorating this 2019 event by creating a limited set menu available to try for a few weeks, between the 28th January until the 24th February 2019.

The Hakkasan Abu Dhabi limited edition signature set menu

We were lucky to taste this limited set menu featuring traditional Chinese delicacies to share. What makes it very interesting is that the Hakkasan Chefs and team worked hard to come up with special creations highlighting the traditions and values shared during these Chinese New Year celebrations. Whether it is the lamb or fish bringing wealth, every single ingredient is chosen with a purpose and has a heartful meaning.

Upon entering the elegant venue, guests can sip on a refreshing Liào Liào, a creative welcome drink that serves to set the mood for the experience to ensue.

Once ready for the culinary journey, the team brought each guest a wholesome Superior seafood soup with crunchy bamboo pith, flavorful and melting in the mouth Chilean seabass and a few goji berries.

Soon after, our table was filled with scrumptious looking starters such as a salad and a duo of Dim Sum: the orange lotus shaped dim sum was our personal favorite and was filled with chicken while the ball covered with sesame seeds was filled with king crab and prawns. Hakkasan Abu Dhabi gave a twist to the salad, mixing typical and traditional ingredients such as Peking duck marinated in an oyster sauce, crispy bean curd and mango usually not paired together.

Please make sure you leave room for the mains as all of the four options brought to share at the table bring unforgettable moments for the tastebuds! We loved the design and taste of the wok-fry lobster with Chinese chive and soft lily bulb. The green color came from the sauce prepared with spinach. Divine!

The stir-fry lamb tenderloin mixed with shiitake was served in a cast iron pot. Definitely the main that surprised us most especially as there were chewy rice cake chunks within the main. It all matched well actually!

As there is something for everyone from seafood, meat to vegeterian dishes, vegans will definitely enjoy the stir-fry pak choy served with a mix of eryngii and pioppini mushrooms in the center. It was a hit amongst the guests, as was the roasted Jasmine chicken with sticky rice which got everyone’s blessing and had a unique aroma.

Get your camera ready when desserts come to the table as the Fortune macarons deserve a video shot.

To finish the feast on a high note, massive congrats to the Pastry team who came up with the Wealth Pot, an individual dessert whose inspiration lies in traditional Chinese beliefs symbolizing good fortune, in line with Hakkasan’s aim of bringing good luck to its guests over the Chinese New Year.

We liked the drama around this magical edible artwork as once you break the chocolate sculpture, you get to discover the many layers, textures and flavors this dessert hides, from mandarin jam to chocolate mousse, caramel or sponge biscuit at the bottom…

This menu is priced at 498 AED per person including one welcome cocktail for a minimum of two guests. To book a table, please call +971 2 690 7739 or email [email protected]

The Wishing Tree

Most symbolic of its celebrations will be the ‘Wishing Tree’, a practice born centuries ago in Lam Tsuen, Hong Kong, whereby guests can tie ribbons with their wishes for the New Year imprinted on them, to the latticed woodwork at the venue.

With its unique ‘Wishing Tree’ set up for guests to marvel at and contribute to, a limited edition signature menu curated for the occasion, Hakkasan Abu Dhabi welcomes guests to relish the delights of its unique “Spring Festival”.

Soothing tunes performed by a DJ from Tuesday to Saturday

To elevate the ambiance, soothing tunes will be performed daily complimenting the guests’ culinary journey and creating a vibrant immersive experience.

From Tuesday to Saturday, Hakkasan Abu Dhabi will also host a DJ, setting the mood further while residents and visitors are invited to enjoy the elegant and spacious outdoor terrace overlooking the capital landmark.
