A Chance to Explore Tastes from All Across India
If you’re a fan of Indian or a rookie wanting to get acquainted region by region, Angar is where it’s at on Wednesdays.
Go with a group; it’s just more fun as the evening can get a bit interactive (including mini culinary pop quiz). You’ll sample a range of taste bud-tickling delicacies from all across India in an affordable, belly-swelling package deal.
We started off with fun street snack pani puri – small, hollow, fried crisps that you fill with a spiced liquid and pop whole into your mouth. It can get messy, but we encourage you – even if for tonight only – just dig in.
Next, beautifully smoked chicken tikka, and paneer (a soft tofu-like South Asian cheese) drizzled in spicy masala.
A large tray followed with plenty of naan and rice to pair with four cracking curries: butter chicken, lamb korma, kadai prawns and saag aloo. And there were suggested palate cleansers laid out for between curries – a cooling yoghurt drink, cucumber raita, mint and coriander.
Sweet saffron rasmalai and a masala chai panna cotta that actually tasted like a good cup of chai, finished off an exceptional foodie tour of India.
We liked the added authentic final touch of offering mukhwas (meaning ‘mouth refresher’). They are these fun spiced “sprinkles” infused with fennel that really work to temper all the wild, whopping tastes we had had all evening that were rolling across our taste buds. Not that we were so eager to.
