Eat Greek Kouzina, a sure bet that has always had us coming back for more

It is no secret we have a liking for Greek and Mediterranean cuisine and our go-to in Abu Dhabi to satisfy our cravings is Eat Greek Kouzina.

Located beside Bentley Kitchen at The Galleria Mall on Al Maryah Island, this licensed trattoria has built a solid reputation for serving tasty, wholesome Greek cuisine (fairly priced) in a cozy intimate setting and a vibrant and enthusiastic team. A year and a half after their opening, Eat Greek Kouzina recently introduced a couple of new dishes on their menu that we were eager to taste as we have memorable culinary experiences whenever we have visited, both in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

During our last visit – we were invited to go taste the new menu – we opted for the outdoor terrace and definitely enjoyed the vibe there. Ceramic tiles on the floor, hanging lanterns, marble tables pairing well with the white comfy sofas, nice breeze, views over the sea and the illuminated buildings around.

With fresh lemons, olive oil and vinegar bottles on each table, the classic tartan white and blue napkins, and Greek music in the background, we were ready for a Greek feast.

The best way to start off the dinner there…

One important advice is to NOT SKIP the Greek dips. Firstly, they are perfect to share while sipping a mocktail and cocktails  – both worth it  – and make you switch into a relaxed mood, feeling like you are on holiday. The Greek mezze platter (45AED) is a must-try: you have to choose three out of four dips- tzatziki, roasted & smoked eggplant purée, creamy fish paste with cold pressed olive oil or feta cheese puree with fresh chili pepper and paprika – which come with freshly baked and grilled pita bread.

We were also delighted to share the crispy whitebait – which seems to be a traditional appetizer in Greece – that is served with a lemon mayonnaise. Hard to find in Abu Dhabi, they were deliciously crispy, light and devoured in no time!

The team also brought us a new salad to share called watermelon and manouri (45 AED). It comes served with a light strawberry dressing that pairs well with the manouri grilled cheese. As the salad is very generous, one portion for two is more than enough if you decide to opt for a sharing style dinner.

Moving on to the mains…

For the mains, we couldn’t help but order their signature grilled octopus tentacles. This dish is a new addition in the main course section and comes served warm with a refreshing side. The side dish surprised us as we would have never thought about combining beans and octopus…  but it actually pairs well. The mix of different beans is  light thanks to the white sauce and crunchy pieces of green apples. Another must-try on their menu, and we still feel their slow-cooked and char-grilled octopus is the best in town!

We also tried a new typical seafood Greek main course of the menu called Giouvarlakia Avgolemono. The homemade seafood balls – prepared with rice, a mix of fish and prawns – are served inside a large soup plate with a generous and rich lemon and egg sauce. A large sourdough bread  – delicious by the way – comes on the side. It is a wholesome dish we will certainly order again when the temperatures drop.

Their new dessert options

The cheesecake lovers will probably go for their Baklava cheesecake, a new option that we will adored. With mixed nuts at the bottom, the cheesecake is topped with a flavorful brownish layer that has an irresistible cinnamon flavor. It is topped with an airy scoop of cottage cheese that is refreshing and pairs well with the cake.

If you have already tried the traditional Galaktoboureko – Greek creme patissière hand-rolled into filo pastry- you will see a slight change this season. The pastry chefs at Eat Greek Kouzina have actually revamped it and it now has a more vertical shape and looks like a wrapped gift, topped with vanilla ice cream.

A spot to have in mind for all meals, at lunchtime, for a casual romantic dinner, a large gathering with friends and also a family outing. Lovely atmosphere, decor, we just love their cuisine, made with love and with fresh ingredients. A beautiful taste of Greek flavors with fair pricing, right here in Abu Dhabi.

Whether indoors or outdoors, we noticed there was a regular flow of newcomers throughout the evening. So, if you want to visit with a couple of friends, make sure you book your table!
