Enjoy Sushi Sundays at Iris

If you love sushi, then you’ll find there’s no better place to have your fill than Yas Marina on a Sunday night. Not only does Aquarium restaurant offer their highly-popular sushi buffet, crowd-pleaser Iris now too has a deal to match.

The stunning lounge welcomes “Sticks N’Soy” nights complete with scarlet-red hanging lanterns and matching gigantic paper fans. Their usual contemporary Mediterranean menu is out in favour of a colourful mix of traditional and contemporary Japanese salads, soups, maki, gunkan and more.

We repeatedly ordered the shrimp seaweed salad for its wonderful addition of sweet and tangy mango and kiwi slices. On the sushi side, the summer mango roll with crab was refreshing, as was the healthy crunch found in the sesame asparagus roll. The rock shrimp tempura maki appears most popular.

As a sushi purist, we usually avoid the Philadelphia roll for being laden with (very un-Japanese) cream cheese, but were surprised to enjoy Iris’ more subtle take on it and dug right in. And while it was hard to shake the absence of sashimi at the table, there was plenty of plump sushi on tap to keep us full and fulfilled.

Finally, the green tea ice cream we finished with was not mochi, but we were consoled by the creative paired cocktails.

All in all, at 110 AED, it certainly is a bargain we’ll be back for.
