The Mexican food joint that always has us back for more in Abu Dhabi

Some of you may already have stumbled across Taqado Mexican Kitchen, the UAE’s much loved Mexican foodie joint, serving wholesome Mexican food at an affordable price point without compromising on taste, freshness of the ingredients and always using local, high-quality ingredients, where possible.

Since 2012- with the opening of their first outlet in Mall of Emirates in Dubai, Taqado Mexican Kitchen has expanded and become one of the fastest-growing UAE food concepts with 17 outlets across the UAE. Taqado currently has 3 locations in Abu Dhabi: at The Galleria Mall, at World Trade Center mall and at Yas Mall, close to VOX cinemas.

Our go-to location in Abu Dhabi is the outlet located at the Galleria Mall. We either pick a table indoors overlooking the sea or then outdoors on the terrace facing the Abu Dhabi skyline.

Whenever we are at a food court, Taqado is usually our number one pick as you can’t go wrong with their wholesome, authentic Mexican cuisine packed with fresh taste. It is also a popular joint amongst the vegan community as they offer a large range of vegan options such as the Lean Mean Bean Menu launched in 2019 comprising vegan burrito, vegan quesadilla, and vegan earth salad.

We enjoy their simple concept allowing you to build from scratch your own Mexican meal in four steps: pick a filling (chicken, beef, mushrooms, chili con carne, etc.), select wrap or bowl for the filling (taco, burrito, quesadilla, salad bowl, etc.) and then choose from toppings such as black or pinto beans, sour cream, salsa, guacamole or cheese.

Their Street Signature new additions are worth trying! 

We visited TAQADO at The Galleria at Al Maryah Island in 2020 as they just introduced a range of explosive new flavors inspired by the Mexico City street food scene, now available at all Taqado locations in the UAE.

Whether you have a plant-based menu or a regular diet including meat, there is something for every taste in both their regular menu and new additions.

We can now choose from four new dishes ordered as a burrito or a burrito box (low carb option as the dish is coming in a box, without the tortilla): Chicken Pastor, Street Steak, Mushroom and Chickpea (V), or Spicy Chicken.

And for the quesadillas fans, Taqado has also introduced four different options: Vegan Chili (V), Potato and Queso (meaning cheese in Spanish), Spicy Chicken, and NZ Steak.

While our guest was interested in a protein item, we decided to pick one of their new vegan dishes and chose the Vegan Chili Quesadilla. Filled with mushroom and chickpea chili, the warm flour tortilla wrap came pressed and folded with melted vegan cheese inside and was served with fresca guacamole aside (available in medium and large portions, 38 or 42AED).

A balanced and wholesome option we will definitely order it again.

Our partner ordered the Street Steak burrito filled with NZ flank steak, Mexican rice, pinto beans, roasted sweet potatoes, fresca, sweetcorn and feta. Also available in medium and large sizes, the medium portion priced at 44AED was very generous and filling.

We always end our meal by ordering their warm and freshly made churros picaduras priced at 15AED, a sweet indulgence we can’t resist. We picked the caramel sauce for the first time and actually preferred it over the chocolate sauce.

Regarding the Bebidas (soft drinks), Taqado has Mexican options such as Jarritos (a Mexican soft drink brand launched in the 1950s), or Horchata pronounced (or-CHAH-tah), a Mexican milk drink.
